I started taking my Bass to Blues Jams a few months ago, and I swear I've never had so much fun in my life. There are plenty of places in London that run these things, and the ones I've visited regularly are listed below. "Blues" can be loosely interpreted here; expect Rock'n'Roll, Funk, R'n'B and Soul too. If you're a musician based in London and you've never tried one of these things, you should come on down, put your name on the list with organiser, and wait to get called up to play. If you're just listening, the Ain't Nothin But Blues bar is probably the best one to pick for atmosphere, fun and a free night out.
Ain't Nothing But Blues Bar20 Kingly Street, W1B 5PZ. (Oxford Circus tube). (Venue details )Monday nights, Live music from 9:30 till 1:00, Jamming from 10:00. Always a brilliant night, for musicians and audience alike. Very popular so get there early to get a seat, and don't expect to arrive as late as 11:00 and still get to play.
